"Watermark", Ariel Shefi's first solo exhibition in Israel, presents new oil and acrylic paintings on canvas. The paintings depict anonymous and lonely figures of men and women, in and near water reservoirs, with open and dim backgrounds. Standing, lying, floating, sinking, perhaps swimming, perhaps drowning, all illustrations of the dynamics of interactions between body and water. In some, the water is passive and the body acts on it, in others the body is passive and the water moves it, although in most, both possibilities exist simultaneously.
